KB Works StudioTraditional Art, Graphic Design & Dance
August 15 June & July were Busy! There was the Renaissance Fantasy Faire in Cloudcroft, NM I am still working on organizing all the other pictures from this month! Enchanted Darkness Gothic Belly Dance workshop & Gala benefit show featuring Tempest, hosted by Scimitar Productions Full Moon Dance with Eternal Dance Studio, in Radium Springs, NM Zahira SuJong's Workshop/hafla I hosted and taught a large number of dancers in a condensed info class that was 3 hours long. It was great! Then we had food and dancing until late. Exhausting, but fun! Just this weekend I was back in New Mexico again at the Shake n' Bake Dance Festival. It was a wonderful time. If anyone can make it to a Shake & Bake festival I really recomend it. I was able to only enjoy it for one day, as I was teaching Saturday morning, taking workshops and performing at the Belly Dance Extravaganza in El Paso, Texas the night before! At 6 AM I headed up to Albuquerque, NM. Got home Monday morning at 1 AM. There was the "Shake your hips on Route 66" Gala Show, wonderful Bazaars, terrific workshops (I took the Drum & Rhythms one Sunday morning) and a I was part of great show with a wonderful variety of dancers. The proceeds of this show benefitted the Albuquerque Animal Humane Society. I think this will be my first weekend "off". I plan to enjoy it by staying home! maybe going to a movie with my hubby. The rest of August is a little quiet. You know just the usual…. Working in my studio, teaching dance classes, creating new choreography, designing websites, and getting things ready for Shakespeare on the Rocks and a number of other things coming in September..... you know a quiet month.... Anyway, Happy Dancing! September 05 Zahira's Dance BioKristina (Zahira) began her studies of dance over 25 years ago in southern Manitoba, Canada. There she studied ballet, tap, contemporary, jazz, European folkloric dance and martial arts. After dancing for 5 years professionally with Troyanda and touring with the troop across Canada, she retired to pursue her advanced studies in Fine Arts & Foreign Languages in Camrose, Alberta. She earned herself a place working in Germany to expand her language and cultural skills, and later teaching at 2 major Universities in South Korea. During her tenure in Asia she took on the opportunity to study indiginous fine arts, martial arts and dance. While in Asia she met & married Evan Butler (& the army), and moved to Alabama in 2003; immersing herself in advanced studies in fine arts, graphic design, German & Middle Eastern Dance. Her art has been exhibited across the south eastern states, & won her many awards. Zahira had studied, choreographed and performed tribal fusion, cabaret and folkloric styles of Mid-Eastern dance with The Beledi Club and Mahasin for 3 years. There she took on the stage name of Zahira (Kristina doesn’t sound very Mid-Eastern). She moved to El Paso, TX with her husband in the summer of 2006 where she continues to perform and teach this beautifully rhythmic style of dance in an easy-to-learn manner at New Horizons Dance Academy on 3465 Lee Blvd., El Paso, Texas.
